Making
a house our home!
On July
29, 2001, New Song held its first worship
service at 912 20th Avenue in Coralville. Needing to move from its
six-year
location in Millennium Plaza next to the Dairy Queen, New Song purchased
the former Community Christian Church building on 20th Avenue in
March 2001.

work prepares the new building to be a good home. |
Much work was needed
to bring the property into compliance with current City Codes, and renovation
continued through the summer months. Bob Cech of Cech Home Improvements
provided general contractor services for the renovation, including some
supervision and training of volunteers. In order to make the lower level
accessible to all, New Song contracted with Schumacher Elevator Company
to install a lift where the old stairway was located.
New Songers and friends
of New Song devoted over 1,500 hours of Sweat Equity tearing out carpet,
knocking down walls, hauling dirt, and painting every inch of the building,
inside and out. Bob Cech installed a new stairway and enclosing walls,
a new exit, an accessible bathroom, and walled off a new office. A new
driveway and turn-around were poured, and the lift installation was finally
completed in October. More photos
New Song began at the
Westfield (now Ramada) Inn in October 1994 and moved to Millennium Plaza
in 1995. New Songers are pleased to have a home of their own and look
forward to continued growth in the 20th Avenue location. Everyone is welcome
to come worship with us.
